Washington Needs a Commission on Boys and Men

Three Kitsap Democrats running for state legislature express support for a commission on boys and men [video]

At a debate held in Bremerton on July 16, 2024, three candidates running for a seat in the state legislature expressed support for the creation of a Washington state commission on boys and men. The three candidates — Brynn Felix, Greg Nance, and John Gibbons — are vying for position two in the House of Representatives for legislative district 23. All three are running as Democrats.

Held at the Norm Dicks Government Center, the debate had an in-person audience and it was streamed on YouTube and Facebook.

Marwan Cameron hosted the event, which was put on by three organizations he leads: Gather Together Grow Together, The Conduit Podcast, and — notably for WIBM — the League of Black Male Voters, a newly-established organization based in Kitsap County. (Gather Together Grow Together has endorsed the Washington state commission on boys and men legislation.)

Watch each of the three candidates’ 90-second response to Mr. Cameron asking for their stance on establishing a commission on boys and men. (The audio quality isn’t great, but subtitles are provided.)

When the next legislative sessions starts in January 2025, one of these three community leaders will represent legislative district 23 in the State House of Representatives. District 23 encompasses much of the Kitsap Peninsula including East Bremerton, Poulsbo, Silverdale, Port Gamble, Suquamish, and Bainbridge Island.
