The three lawmakers who represent state legislative district 3 (central Spokane) conducted a telephone town hall event on Tuesday evening. Two of the three — Senator Marcus Riccelli and Representative Timm Ormsby — are co-sponsors of the legislation to establish a Washington state commission on boys and men (SB 5446 / HB 1266). The outreach coordinator for Spokane Fatherhood Initiative, Greg Naker, participated in the town hall and asked the legislators about their reasons for supporting the bill and what they think it will take to achieve a public hearing for it.

Blair Daly of Washington Initiative for Boys and Men testified during the January 22, 2025 public hearing on HB 1262 in the House Committee on Health Care and Wellness. HB 1262 makes modifications to Washington's Health Disparities Council. During the executive session on HB 1262 on January 31, Rep. Joe Schmick did introduce an amendment like what WIBM requested. However, a majority of the committee voted No on the amendment. See that video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z7DQkiBlQdg The bill ultimately passed out of committee in its original form. This clip is from the executive session on HB 1262 modifying the Health Disparities Council in the House Committee on Health Care and Wellness on January 31, 2025. An amendment was introduced to add a seat on Washington's Health Disparities Council for an advocate for the health of men and boys. The amendment was not adopted, but committee chair Rep. Dan Bronoske spoke about the need to take the well-being of boys and men seriously and his desire to see a Commission on Boys and Men established..
