Democratic Congressman Adam Smith is a member of the Congressional Men’s Health Caucus. He recorded this interview with Blair Daly on November 14. He has been a member of the U.S. House of Representatives since 1997. Congressman Smith represents Washington’s 9th congressional district. It includes parts of the cities of Seattle, Bellevue, Mercer Island, Renton, Tukwila, Seatac, Kent, Des Moines, Auburn, and Federal Way. In this interview Rep. Smith speaks passionately about the reality that boys and men are facing significant challenges in our society — challenges that must be addressed in serious ways. Also, no matter what perspective you’re coming from, you'll likely find that at least one thing he says irks you. That’s good! To us it’s evidence that he’s not a single-track thinker, he’s willing to clearly state his positions and opinions, and he’s willing to risk offending. Excellent! Given that we’re discussing men’s well-being, it is relevant to note that in 2023 Adam Smith published a memoir, Lost and Broken: My Journey Back from Chronic Pain and Crippling Anxiety. We greatly appreciate Congressman Smith speaking with us and his serious concern for boys and men's well-being!

King County residents Dorsol Plants (formerly with Domestic Abuse Women's Network) and Ward Urion with the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence (formerly with LifeWire) speak about the gold standard model for domestic violence shelters utilized by Bellevue's LifeWire organizations and some other organizations that provide temporary housing for those escaping abusive home environments.
